Basanta stepped in for suspended left-back Marcos Rojo, while coach Alejandro Sabella drafted in experienced centre-back Demichelis and central midfielder Biglia to replace Federico Fernandez and Fernando Gago.

With Sergio Aguero still not fit enough to start following a muscular complaint, Ezequiel Lavezzi held onto his place in attack alongside Gonzalo Higuain and captain Lionel Messi.

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots made only one change to the team that had beaten the United States in the last 16, with Kevin Mirallas taking over from Dries Mertens on the right flank.

Wilmots kept faith with 19-year-old Lille striker Divock Origi, meaning that Romelu Lukaku started the game on the bench at the Mane Garrincha National Stadium.

The winners of Saturday's game will play either the Netherlands or Costa Rica in the second semi-final in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
