Frank Lampard converted a penalty barely 20 minutes into the second leg game between Chelsea and Benfica, and put the Blues into a comfortable 2-0 aggregate lead.

It was not a good start to the first half for Benfica, as they had already seen four yellow cards before the 30th minute. Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic also joined this club by getting booked in the first half.

Benfica's Maxi Pereira then caused disaster for his team with a wild tackle, which resulted in his second yellow card and left the Portuguese team with only ten men on the pitch. Chelsea's Ramires would also get booked in the 44th minute making it a total of seven yellow cards handed out by a trigger-happy referee. An eight card was handed to Chelsea's John Mikel Obi in the 79th minute.

Benfica certainly got more shots off in the first half, but none of them could pull in a goal for the visiting side. They coordinated their attacks well, but the critical finish just wasn't there for them.

The second half didn't start any better for Benfica, as Petr Cech made an excellent save from Gaitan's strike. Chelsea's Ramires also managed to miss scoring from about a yard away. Fernando Torres also got a good opportunity, but was unable to capitalize.

Chelsea began to pile on the pressure in the second half, apparently not content to finish with an aggregate score of 2-0. A number of misses in the last half hour could potentially have made the score line much higher.

Javi Garcia gave Benfica a glimmer of hope in the 85th minute with a goal, setting up a tense final few minutes for the game.

Fortunately for Chelsea, late substitute Raul Meireles hit a bullet of a goal during a counter attack in injury time, which ensured Chelsea's passage to the semi-finals with a 3-1 aggregate score.

Chelsea is once again set to meet Barcelona for another chapter what has become a heated Champions League rivalry between the English and Spanish sides. It should prove to be a chippy affair that will likely lead to some confrontations between players from both sides.
