Canadian Mark McMorris broke a rib at the Winter X Games but said that he would still be chasing a slopestyle gold medal at next month's Sochi Olympics.

McMorris, the X Games Aspen slopestyle gold medalist in 2012 and 2013 and a favorite going in to Sochi, nabbed the silver behind fellow Canadian Max Parrot, despite being injured in a fall on his third and final run.

McMorris, the top-ranked slopestyle rider on the 2013 World Snowboard Tour, vowed on Twitter that he would still pursue Olympic gold when the Winter Olympics gets under way in two weeks.

"Thank you all for the kind words!!!!" he told his followers on the social networking website. "I ended up breaking a rib today, but will be continuing my journey to Sochi for Team Canada."

A statement released through Red Bull, his sponsor, said tests showed no other internal injuries and said McMorris had been released from hospital.
