SINGAPORE: Singapore has finalised its squad for a star-studded OUE Singapore Open from April 8 to 13.
World number 50 Derek Wong will compete in the men's singles, where he could face top-ranked Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia at some point.
2013 Singapore Open champion Tommy Sugiarto is also returning to defend his title.
Wong said, "It is good to see so many world-class badminton players coming to compete in the OUE Singapore Open. I believe with the support of the home fans, this will push me to perform better."
World number 21 Gu Juan will feature in the women's singles competition, which also includes the likes of Li Xuerui.
Li won the women's singles gold at the 2012 London Olympics by defeating teammate and world number two Wang Yihan, who is also competing.
2013 SEA Games bronze medalists Yao Lei and Shinta Mulia Sari will take part in the women's doubles, where they could face Denmark's Christinna Pederson and Kamilla Rytter, as well as Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi of Japan.
Yao and Shinta were the 2010 Singapore Open women's doubles champions.
Meanwhile, Danny Bawa Chrisnanta will partner Vanessa Neo in the mixed doubles.
Thailand has also announced its squad for the tournament, taking the total number of participating countries to 18.
The Thais will be represented by a strong 20-man contingent, led by two-time Singapore Open champion and current world number six Boonsak Ponsana.
There's also a spot for the youngest ever women's singles world champion and third-ranked Ratchanok Inthanon.
"2013 was a good year for me. I'm looking forward to competing in Singapore and this is also a good opportunity for me to assess our opponents ahead of the Uber Cup in May," Ratchanok said. - CNA/de
