SINGAPORE: The eighth and final leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup kicks off this weekend with a stellar list of reigning Olympic and World champions competing at the Singapore Sports School.
The starting line up is set to become more impressive in two years’ time with the completion of the Sports Hub Aquatic Centre as FINA intends to stage more top class swim meets in Singapore.
"I have been expecting this aquatic centre for a long time and I am very happy that in 2014, it is going to happen," said Cornel Marculescu, the executive director of FINA.
"I think it is very beneficial for youths and the development of sports in Singapore. And we are going to support by any means, whatever federation, our members or the Singapore (Sports) Council would like to do."
The two—day event will feature reigning Olympic and World champions, Jessica Hardy from the USA — a gold medallist at the London Olympics and Australia’s Christian Sprenger, a silver medallist from the 2012 Games.
