SINGAPORE: The LionsXII on Friday advanced to the Malaysia Cup quarter—finals after a 0—0 draw with Johor FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Playing at home in their final Malaysia Cup Group A match, the LionsXII applied pressure from the start of the match.
But Harris Harun, Khairul Amri and Shahril Ishak wasted several chances to give LionsXII a deserved lead before the break.
It was a different story in the second half.
Knowing that a draw would ensure their place in the quarter—finals, the visitors were reluctant to attack upfield.
Jeers began to fill the Jalan Besar Stadium as fans showed their displeasure.
Some fans eventually had enough of the lack of gamesmanship and left the stadium with ten minutes to go.
Johor’s tactics also took the wind out the LionsXII’s attack as the home side were visibly frustrated with their opponent’s unsporting behaviour.
The game eventually finished goalless.
The two sides will progress to the next stage, with the LionsXII meeting Pahang away in the quarter—finals on September 21.
