SINGAPORE: Liverpool player Craig Bellamy backs the appointment of new coach Brendan Rodgers for the Reds but acknowledges that it would be a big test for the former Swansea coach.

39—year—old Rodgers replaces Kenny Dalglish, who was sacked for the club’s poor season this year.

Bellamy made the comment at the official launch of the new Liverpool home kit in Singapore.

The new kit is by American company Warrior, which signed a six—year deal with the club.

A new look and a new man at the helm could help change the team’s fortunes, and Liverpool striker Bellamy feels that fans would take to Rodgers, if he sets the team the way he did with his former club Swansea.

Bellamy said: "I am sad to see Kenny go but I think they have made a very good appointment in Brendan Rodgers. I really do. I have got the chance to look at him closely over the last few years because he is only down the road in Swansea and I’m in Cardiff. He is a very good guy as well, he speaks well, knows his football and he has proven himself.

"Liverpool is a huge challenge. No disrespect to Swansea, but this is Liverpool Football Club. So it is going to be a big test for him, but to me if you know football, you know football. It doesn’t matter which club you go to."
