Horse Racing: Chase Me wins S$1.15m Emirates Derby

SINGAPORE: Chase Me has lived up to its name and won this year’s S$1.15 million (US$900,000) Emirates Derby in emphatic style.
The victorious horse blew away the rest of the competition in the 2,000m race.
16 horses had charged out of the starting blocks on the rain affected track at the Kranji Turf Club.
Nandowra, Red Beard, Deep Pockets were among the favourites, and the big names maintained the lead in the early stages.
But a surprise awaited everyone at the final stretch as Chase Me, jockeyed by Joao Moreira, broke away from the pack and won by an unprecedented eight lengths.
A distant second was Deep Pockets, and Arowana Dot Com took third spot.
The derby is the final leg of the Singapore Four—Year—Old Challenge.
