Olympics: Tao Li misses out on 100m butterfly finals

LONDON: Singapore’s swimming star Tao Li failed to qualify for the women’s 100m butterfly finals at the London Olympics on Saturday.
The 22—year—old clocked 58.18 seconds in the first semi—final heats at the London Olympic Park’s Aquatics Centre to finish fourth, behind Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom (57.27), China’s duo Lu Ying (57.51) and Jiao Liuyang (58.04).
Despite managing to better her 58.34 timing which she clocked during the morning heats, Tao eventually clocked the 10th fastest time out of a field of 16 in the semifinals.
American Dana Vollmer was the fastest qualifier in 56.36, with Australia’s Alicia Coutts (56.85) second and Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen third (57.25).
