SINGAPORE: Singapore paddlers have won a second gold medal at the 2012 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals in Hangzhou, China.

The women’s doubles team of Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu beat Taiwan’s I—Ching and Huang Yi—Hua.

Feng and Yu followed in the footsteps of their male counterparts, Gao Ning and Li Hu, who won the men’s doubles title on Saturday.

The duo’s win is all the more significant as they came in as reserves, replacing the reigning European champs.

The Singaporean paddlers, who are seeded 8, pulled off a surprise win against the number 2 seeds from Taiwan.

They were prevailing in seven games to clinch the title with scores of 11—13, 11—13, 11—8, 11—4, 11—3, 5—11, 11—2.

For their effort, they also collected US$50,000.
