Galaxy has a new Friend in Canadian striker
Rob Friend, an 1860 Munich striker who has spent most of his 11-year career in Europe, has signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Major League Soccer club announced Monday.
The 32-year-old Canadian has played for eight different clubs in Norway, the Netherlands and Germany.
Friend has netted 79 goals in 256 matches in Europe and scored twice for Canada in 32 international appearances, his most recent appearance coming in 2011.
"The addition of Rob Friend to our roster brings a different dimension to our attack," Galaxy general manager and coach Bruce Arena said.
"Rob is a veteran player with a scoring pedigree and we are excited to bolster our roster by bringing him to LA."
Friend has scored one goal in 10 games for Munich this season after four goals in 14 matches last year when he was on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Galaxy, beaten by Real Salt Lake in last year's play-off quarter-finals, signed Brazilian forward Samuel last week on loan from Fluminese.
