Di Francesco, who led the small club from Emilia Romagna to the top flight for the first time in their history last season, was dismissed with Sassuolo languishing in the relegation zone.

But having lost all five of their matches under his successor, Alberto Malesani, the club called on Di Francesco again on Monday, having sacked Malesani after the 1-0 home defeat by Parma at the weekend.

Malesani's dismissal is the 11th in the Italian top flight this season.
