The Beautiful Game has been marred by spectator problems recently. Are authorities not doing enough or are people getting worse?
It is becoming a disturbing trend.
Fans clashed this week ahead of the Champions League match between PSG and Dinamo Zagreb.
Astonishingly, the scuffles did not even happen within a football environment. The two sets of supporters faced off in the Bastille area in central Paris.
About 100 had been arrested and travelling Croatian fans were banned from attending the football game.
Fan trouble is not new to the Beautiful Game (ironic?), but in recent weeks we have witnessed an alarming surge in such ugly incidents, from the abandonment of a Senegal-Ivory Coast qualifier to the on-field attack on Sheffield Wednesday’s Chris Kirkland.
The football world is well acquainted with the catastrophic effects of such unrest and needs no reminder.
We look at recent episodes, and a few more not too far back.
