Giggs reaches game 1,000 in Real Madrid showdown

The Welshman, 39, has made 932 appearances for United, his only club, 64 appearances for Wales, and played four times for Great Britain's men's Olympic team at last year's London Games.

Giggs, who signed a one-year contract extension with United on Friday, becomes only the third British outfield player to play in 1,000 games, after Tony Ford and Graeme Alexander.

United began the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at Old Trafford with a slight advantage over Spanish champions Madrid, having emerged with a 1-1 draw from the away leg on February 13.
