Robin van Persie's recent announcement that he won't sign a new contract with Arsenal isn't much of a surprise.

Elite athletes want to win. For someone in his prime, like van Persie, it's difficult to swallow season after season of failure.

Less than a decade after their unbeaten season, Arsenal are a shadow of their former selves. The allure of the former "Invincibles" isn't enough to keep or attract world-class talent anymore.

However, the Dutch striker isn't the first Gunner to become disillusioned in recent years. Here's a look at a few other prominent players who have left the London club in recent years, and how they fared.

it is sad for Arsenal and arsene wenger. The players potential are there, unfortunately due to injuries and players taking turn to hit form, it undermine their chance for glory and trophies.Last season start was so bad that we thought they may get relegated but they managed third.Imagineif the start was good they could be champion instead of man city.
