Lemaitre, who had been picked to compete in his favoured 200m, will be replaced by Jeffrey John.

"While doing a speed session on Tuesday eventing, Christophe Lemaitre felt a pain in his right thigh, high on the quadriceps, when crossing the line in his last 150m," the French athletics federation said.

A scan showed there was no muscle tear but as the pain continued, the sprinter's doctor Fabrice Descombes and French team doctor Jean-Michel Serra decided Lemaitre had to rest up until a second scan next week.

The world 200m bronze medallist, who is also reigning double European 100m champion had also pulled out of last week's Diamond League meeting in Oslo.
