Mizdirection repeats in Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint
Mike Smith reacts to his win atop Mizdirection in the Turf Sprint during the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park on November 2, 2013 in Arcadia, California
As she was last year, the five-year-old mare trained by Mike Puype was mid-pack as the field of 13 made the downhill opening dash on the Santa Anita turf track.
And as she did last year, she ran down the leaders to win the 6.5-furlong race in convincing style.
Reneesgotzip, third in the race last year, set the pace early and barely held on to take second ahead of Tightend Touchdown.
Unbridled's Note, last year's runner-up, finished fourth.
Mizdirection has won 11 of 17 lifetime starts and is unbeaten in seven starts on Santa Anita's turf track.
Smith, whose 17 Breeders' Cup wins coming into this year's 30th edition of the event already made him the winningest jockey in Breeders' Cup history, nabbed his third victory of the weekend.
