Pro basketball was shaken to its core by the gambling scandal that took down referee Tim Donaghy. Ensnared in an FBI investigation into organized crime, Donaghy was forced to resign amid accusations he'd been betting on games he worked and passing inside information to low level mobsters. Donaghy and his co-conspirators all got 15 months behind bars for their troubles, where the rotten ref was laid low with a leg injury after being attacked by a mob enforcer, and managed to write his memoirs.
