Salt Lake City 2002 bid
Action Press/Rex FeaturesShow Thumbnails
The selection of Olympic host cities came under some uncomfortable scrutiny for corrupt IOC officials after Salt Lake City won the Winter Games of 2002 with some questionable inducements. In return for their bids, International Olympic Committee members got ski trips, scholarships for their kids, trips to the Super Bowl, deals on real estate, even jobs for family members. When the scandal broke, 10 IOC members were expelled and another 10 were punished. For their part in the affair, the two men in charge of the Salt Lake organizing committee resigned. The man who took over might surprise you. His name is Mitt Romney.
