Starting the second day with a 26.1sec advantage over Ostberg, Ogier reached Saturday's halfway point with a 49-second edge over teammate and world championship leader Jari-Matti Latvala.
Hyundai's Thierry Neuville was in third but almost four minutes off the lead.
Ostberg's challenge unravelled when his Citroen hit a bank on the opening 30.33km stage and broke the rear left suspension.
Ostberg attempted to repair the damage but eventually was forced to give up on his race hopes.
