A winner of three world titles, Yin has been waiting a long time to try and make up for the crushing disappointment of four years ago when she clinched Singapore's spot at the Beijing Olympics but missed out on selection for the national sailing squad.
She began racing at the age of 12 and collected her first world crown in 2006 when she won the women's Bytes World Championship.
Two years later, a 19th-place finish in a Laser Radial event in New Zealand secured Singapore a place at the Beijing Games but the teenager lost out to team-mate Lo Man Yi in the selection trials.
That heartache was somewhat soothed by having become the world Laser 4.7 champion the same year, while in 2009 she claimed the Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships Laser Radial title in Brazil.
Yin moved to the University of Sydney two years ago to study a Bachelor of Science degree and credits the switch for a new-found consistency in her racing.
She also booked Singapore's ticket to London with a 53rd-place finish in December's World Championships in Perth.
