LONDON: Singapore’s Joseph Schooling crashed out of the men’s 100m butterfly heats at the London Olympics.

Swimming in lane 5, Schooling put in a credible performance to finish third with a time of 53.63 seconds.

However, he ended up in 35th position among 43 swimmers.

Schooling was hoping to make amends after finishing last in his 200m butterfly heats on Monday.

The 17—year—old was affected by a last—minute distraction when an official told him his brand of goggles and cap were not officially approved.

In the women’s 800m freestyle heats, Singapore’s Lynette Lim finished seventh with a time of 8 minutes 52.92 seconds.

The 20—year—old finished in 31st position out of 35 swimmers.
