
LONDON: Singapore’s women paddlers beat Poland 3—1 on Friday in the Olympic women’s team table tennis first round to proceed to the quarter finals.
In the first match, Li Qian (POL) beat Feng Tianwei (SIN) 3—2 (11—8, 13—15, 9—11, 11—9, 11—8).
The two teams drew 1—1 after Wang Yuegu (SIN) defeated Natalia Partyka (POL) in three straight games (11—6, 11—9, 11—6).
Singapore led 2—1 after the doubles of Li Jiawei/Wang Yuegu (SIN) beat Katarzyna Grzybowska/Natalia Partyka (POL) 3—0 (11—7, 11—6, 11—9).
In the last singles, Feng Tianwei (SIN) easily defeated Katarzyna Grzybowska (POL) 3—0 (11—8, 11—6, 11—6) to get Singapore through to the next round.
Singapore will next play North Korea in the women’s team quarter—finals on Sunday, 2am (Singapore time).
