This has to be the worst week for one of the country's premier sports

A lot happened in sports this week. Novak Djokovic won the first Grand Slam of the year, several minor teams showed that giant-killing doesn't have to happen once in a blue moon, not to mention the small matter of the transfer deadline, which saw massive names like David Beckham, Mario Balotelli and Wesley Sneijder pick new homes.
Yet in terms of gravity, none topped a torrid week for judo in Japan.
A popular sport there that ensures a steady stream of Olympic medals, the fraternity was rocked first by revelations that female national judokas had been subjected to physical abuse by coach Ryuji Sonoda (left), then double gold medallist Masato Uchishiba's (right) jailing for rape.
