QPR captain Joey Barton was hit with a 12-match ban on Wednesday, and fined £75,000 ($118,000), after being found guilty of two charges of violent conduct during the defeat to Manchester City on the last day of the Premier League season.

After being sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez, Barton kneed Sergio Aguero and then tried to headbutt City captain Vincent Kompany before finally leaving the field.

These are some of the other incidents that have marred Barton's career over the years:

2004: February - Barton is sent off for the first time in his career during Manchester City's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Tottenham.

April - Barton storms out of the City of Manchester Stadium before kick-off after being dropped from the City team to face Southampton.

July - City manager Kevin Keegan hits out at Barton after the player causes a mass brawl in a pre-season friendly at Doncaster.

December - Barton is fined six weeks' wages by City after stubbing a lit cigar in the eye of young team-mate Jamie Tandy during the club's Christmas party. Tandy later sued Barton, winning £65,000 in damages.
