Liverpool 4-0 Tottenham
Liverpool players celebrate taking the lead at Anfield.
Luis Suarez scored his 29th goal of the season as Liverpool went top of the Premier League with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Anfield.
The hosts got off to the perfect start when Glen Johnson advanced into the penalty box and saw his cross turned into the net by Spurs defender Younes Kaboul.
Liverpool doubled their advantage on 25 minutes when another defensive lapse by Kaboul gifted Suarez possession. The Uruguayan raced clear and fired past Hugo Lloris from an acute angle.
Spurs’ only first-half opening came when Christian Eriksen found himself with time and space in the box but his strike was blocked by Martin Skrtel.
Suarez almost made it three before the break but his header was tipped onto the bar by Lloris.
Liverpool made the points safe on 55 minutes when Jon Flanagan cut inside and found Philippe Coutinho midway inside the Spurs half. The Brazilian raced unopposed towards the penalty area before burying a shot into the corner from 20 yards.
Spurs' misery was complete on 75 minutes when Jordan Henderson’s free kick into the box evaded everybody and nestled in the back of the net sending the home fans into rapture.
