Amazing: that is the first word that comes to mind every time I see this goal. It may not stand out like a 30-yard stunner, but the poise and composure that Carroll displayed to pull it off shows why so much has been spent on him in overall transfer fees.

The ball into Carroll was perfectly weighted to drop over his shoulder, just like a quarterback throwing deep to a receiver in American football, and with a flick of the ankle Andy Carroll created a magical moment that will stand out in the memory of most Hammers fans for 2013.

In all fairness to West Ham, they haven't managed many world-class strikes over the course of 2013, but with finishing like this, it shows that the Hammers need Carroll back so that they can kick on in 2014.
