xinmsn Sports counts down the Premier League's top stoppers
With the additions of Hugh Lloris and Julio Cesar in the summer, the English Premier League now showcases possibly the best collection of goalkeepers compared to other leagues.
It is no surprise that week in, week out we don't just witness outstanding goals but also some unbelievable saves.
Often the villain, a good shot-stopper can in a split second become the hero, and we wanted to find out who has consistently been the best custodian in the English top flight so far this season.
So along with Opta we have rated the keepers in line with our points system:
- 2pts for a save from a shot inside box
- 1pt for a save from long range shot
- 5pts for a clean sheet
- -1pt for a dropped cross
These, we believe, take into account that some keepers faced more shots, but still rewarding the better sides with clean sheets.
When keepers get the same points, saves-to-shots ratio is taken into account.
So check out the list, starting from the worst - there may be a few surprises...
