Shinya Aoki remains the One FC lightweight world champion, while Ben Askren wrestles the welterweight championship from Nobutatsu Suzuki and Naratungalag Jadambaa is the new featherweight champion
Three One FC world championships were up for grabs at the One FC: Reign of Champions event on 29 Aug at the Dubai World Trade Centre, as some of the promotion’s top stars came together in an incredible show that featured nine fights.
Two of Southeast Asia’s top female mixed martial arts fighters, Ann Osman and Ana Julaton, got the action started. Both fighters went the distance and were an even match for each other in terms of wrestling and strikes, but it was Osman who was declared the winner via split decision at the end of round 3.
Thereafter, there was joy for the home crowd as local fighter Mohamad Walid defeated his opponent Vaughn Donayre just after the first minute of round 1, via a quick armbar from a full mount position along the cage.
Temperatures soared even higher when the championship bouts got underway, as Narantungalang Jadambaa’s superior striking skills got the better of Koji Oishi. Again, both fighters went the distance, but it was Jadambaa who took the victory in the fifth round, thanks to more precision strikes.
Subsequently, Ben Askren made light work of Nobutatsu Suzuki inside the first round and claimed the welterweight world championship for his own. Askren’s unmatched wrestling skills saw him take down Suzuki right from the get-go, before unleashing a flurry of punches and winning via TKO.
Finally in the lightweight world championship bout, Shinya Aoki successfully defended his title against Kamal Shalorus, who tapped out to a devasting rear naked choke when Aoki took his back just after two minutes of the first round.
