(Goalkeeper) Peter Schmeichel

Sir Alex Ferguson’s finest XI begins, of course, with Peter Schmeichel who remains his – and probably the Premier League’s - best value-for-money signing after moving to Old Trafford for just over £500,000 in 1991. The Dane had had to wait a full season to earn his dream move after the deal initially stalled but repaid his boss’s faith emphatically by becoming Europe’s finest goalkeeper over the next decade.
