Levante midfielder Pape Diop said he had been the subject of monkey chanting by Atletico Madrid fans as his side inflicted a shock 2-0 defeat on La Liga leaders on 4 May 2014.
Diop provoked outrage (pictured) among the Atletico players by dancing in front of the disconsolate travelling fans at the final whistle.
However, the Senegalese said he was just responding to monkey chants aimed towards him as he took a corner deep into stoppage time.

After the match, Alves said humour was the best way to combat racism in sport. That sentiment has led fellow football players, officials and even political figures from around the globe to respond with solidarity by taking photos eating bananas.
Unfortunately for the sport this is not the first time that racism has reared its ugly head in football. Click or swipe to see more examples.
