Toulon's Bruni pulls out of Perpignan switch
Toulon's French flanker Virgile Bruni (C) is tackled by Castres's Scottish lock Richie Gray (L) during a French Top 14 Rugby Union match on February 15, 2014 at the Mayol stadium in Toulon, southeastern France - by Bertrand Langlois
The 100kg and 1.98m player was part of the 30-man France preparatory squad for Saturday's Six Nations clash with Scotland but was not retained for the match-day group.
He was the Catalans' first recruit for next season but has apparently now decided to stay at European champions Toulon.
Toulon are currently top of the French Top 14, although competition for places in the back row is fierce with the likes of Englishman Steffon Armitage, Argentine Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Chris Masoe of New Zealand and South Africans Danie Roussouw, Juan Smith and Joe van Niekerk all on the southerners' books.
Perpignan, however, are battling for their Top 14 lives having dropped to 12th in the table, the last position above the relegation places, following a run of eight defeats in their last 11 matches that has left them just seven points above Oyonnax, who have two games in hand.
