Warriors rout Lakers 115-89 in Shanghai
Jordan Hill (C) of the LA Lakers tries to block Jermaine O'Neal (L) and Draymond Green (R) of the Golden State Warriors during their NBA Global Game 2013 tour game at the Wukesong Stadium in Beijing on October 15, 2013
Thompson shot five from six behind the three-point line and two of his threes started a 13-0 Warriors run near the end of the third quarter that blew open what had previously been a close game.
"(Players) one through nine can score the ball and I got lucky tonight," Thompson said. "I had a lot of wide-open shots that my teammates created for me. That’s when basketball is easy, making open shots."
Thompson was backed by power forward David Lee, who scored 16 points, and productive bench contributions from Draymond Green and Kent Bazemore, who both finished with 14 points.
New Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala finished with four points but also tallied a game-high 14 assists with seven rebounds and five steals.
"(Iguodala) showed why we got him. He's comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays with all the weapons that we have," said Warriors head coach Mark Jackson.
It wasn’t all good news for the Warriors as star point guard Stephen Curry finished with nine points on an off-shooting night.
Even more alarming was center Andrew Bogut leaving minutes into the game. However Jackson said it was more out of precaution.
Los Angeles was led by center Pau Gasol, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. The four-time All-Star was the only Laker to finish with over 10 points.
"We have a lot of work to do and make sure to work hard the next 11 days to get ready before the season starts," said Gasol, whose team was only down by three with minutes left in the third before the Warriors went on that decisive run.
Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni opted to play 14 players in the game but the team couldn’t overcome a dreadful shooting night.
D’Antoni was dismissive when asked if he was concerned that the team’s performances would carry on into the season.
But the Warriors' Thompson said: "I've seen them rule the state of California for far too long.
"We're trying to change that and it starts in the pre-season."
The game marked the conclusion of the pre-season slate of the NBA's inaugural Global Games that featured eight games in six countries including the first NBA games to be played in Brazil and the Philippines.
